Hi lovelies! With back to school literally around the corner (as in, next week!) preparations are in full swing to make sure the kids have everything they need so they can be prepared for life's little curveballs. Now for my 9 year old, that means he has all the supplies he needs and has clothes, shoes, and that's about it. For my nearly 13 year old starting 8th grade, that preparedness has different implications. She's pretty early into her "monthly visits", so her period unfortunately can come at any time for her. This means that she has to always be prepared. We sat down together the other day and put together an emergency kit for her to keep in her backpack/locker, and another for her soccer bag. Of course the most important item the kit had to include was feminine care. {Click to keep reading!}
Tips for creating an emergency kit for your teen or tween's locker:
- Most importantly, include some Stayfree Ultra Thin Regular pads! I also included a Stayfree Overnight pad, just in case a late study session turns into a last minute sleepover.
- Work together with your teen to determine what beauty products she needs the most. It can be a fun bonding moment. Create a kit to keep in your purse while you're at it!
- Most schools no longer allow students to have any kind of medications on them (even ibuprofen!), so check with your school's policy before including any type of medicine. For us, she can't have cough drops, antacid tablets, etc. either, so those aren't being included here.
- Choose a small cosmetic pouch to keep your kit in, it won't take up a lot of real estate in her backpack or locker.
- Plan on replenishing the kit on a regular basis. Choose a date that's easy to remember, like the first of every month!
My daughter decided that she wanted to keep hers rather minimal, and chose in addition to the Stayfree pads some hand sanitizer, lotion, lip balm, hair ties, and bobby pins. The great part is that she can reevaluate what she needs to keep in here throughout the year so as her needs change, her kit can too!
If she has a gym locker too, I'd suggest making a second, identical kit for that one. In hers, we will also include some deodorant, body spray, hair brush, and body wipes.
You can find Stayfree Ultra Thin Regular and Overnight pads in the feminine care aisle at Walmart!
What would you include in your teen's emergency kit for her locker?
