Hi lovelies! I am loving this new creation of mine! Inspired by this Matta Naira Necklace, but not its $124 price tag, I knew I could recreate it for under $5, and I did! (I had everything on hand, but to buy the supplies you'll spend $5 at most!) {Click to keep reading!}
You'll need:
- Small gold glass beads
- Beading needle
- 6 similar sized, different colored larger beads
- Embroidery floss (I used 7 different colors altogether, what you use it totally up to you!)
- Not shown ~ scissors
Decide which color you want to string all the beads on. I chose to let it show a bit in the very back for a pop of color, so I decided on a bright coral. Thread your needle.
It's a pain to thread these little seed beads. So when I do, I make a pile of them and horizontally skim the needle over the top a few times. I'll usually get anywhere from 3-10 beads on the needle this way.
Once you have a few on the needle, push them down onto the thread. Once you have about 2" or so, add a large bead, then repeat two more times. Now it's time to just bead (this is where the tassels will go) so keep a rough outline going in your head (I did 9 tassels and used roughly the same distance as with the beads). When you have enough room for your tassels, add the beads to the other side in the same manner, and finally knot the two ends together.
Now we're ready to make tassels!
For each tassel, I wrapped embroidery floss around my index and middle fingers a little loosely 20 times.
Slide it off, and tie the top middle with a short piece of floss, and hang the ends down so they become part of the tassel. Snip the middle of the ends, opposite where you just tied off the top.
Straddle it over the beads.
Use another short piece of floss to tie the tassel together, as shown above. Bring the ends down to be part of the tassel.
Trim the tassel so it's about 1" long and fluff it out! Repeat for the remaining 8 tassels.
Voila!
I love how simple this is to make and it has such a great boho summery vibe to it! It's a bit tedious to make, stringing all the beads and making the tassels, but in all it took me about an hour-ish to make. Pop in a movie, pour a cocktail, and craft away! This would be a great girls night in craft to make; the supplies are inexpensive and it's fun to see how everyone customizes their own necklaces!
