Hi lovelies! I started these jeans a few weeks ago, but hadn't posted them yet. They hadn't quite turned out as originally expected; however, I love them even more than what I was initially going for! {Click to keep reading!}
You'll need:
- A pair of plain white skinnies (I picked these up at Walmart for $16)
- Navy blue dye
- Medicine dropper
- A small bucket
- Gloves, plastic to protect your surface, something to stir the dye with, salt and vinegar (if desired)
Start by mixing your dye. I used about 2 tablespoons of the powder with about 3 cups of hot water. I also added about 2 tablespoons of salt to enhance the color.
Use the medicine dropper to drop ink onto your denim! I found that holding the dropper too close didn't give enough splatter, and holding it too far gave too much. Around 8" above the denim proved to be perfect!
My bucket of dye and dropper
Keep going until you reach the coverage desired. Let dry and repeat on the other side.
Finished!
Love the pattern!
So here's what I was initially going for. I thought I had done a pretty good job! I even let them dry for 3 days to make sure the dye had really set and wouldn't run. I then rinsed in cold water and vinegar (which I heard would prevent the bleeding/running), but the dye ran. So I went with it, after rinsing in the washing machine (cold water!) 7 times to really make sure.So they have a lilac tint with deeper periwinkle spots. I'm seriously digging them though! They're super unique, I get compliments on them everywhere, and although they may be considered a #DIYFail, I'm taking them as a win!
What do you think of these?
